Full Job Description

The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking an energetic and innovative Associate Director of Clinical Science (AD) to provide high-level strategic leadership and administrative direction for the Institute's clinical research enterprise in alignment with the expectations established by the NCI. The AD will work closely with faculty and administrative leaders in the oncology program to expand the clinical research portfolio in support of NCI Designation. The AD will represent and advocate for the interests and needs of cancer clinical research the institutional level. The AD of Clinical Science is supported by a robust clinical research infrastructure, including the WPRCI Clinical Trials Office and Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee.

The Associate Director of Clinical Science is appointed by and reports to the Director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. The AD works closely with the Cancer Institute Director and Director of the Clinical Trials Office to optimize clinical research and accelerate the development of cancer clinical trials. The AD of Clinical Science will have a faculty position in the College of Medicine. Candidates must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or above, with an MD or MD/PhD, or comparable degree, and have a documented track record in funded clinical research, as evidenced by a history of peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding and/or clinical trials activity. The position will have access to substantial resources including a multiple year support package to conduct clinical and laboratory-based research focused on the unique cancer burdens of Arkansas.

This recruiting effort is made possible through significant institutional support and a commitment from the state of Arkansas to support the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute's efforts to attain NCI Designation. The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is the only cancer center in the state of Arkansas with a robust cancer research portfolio and a mission to improve cancer outcomes for all Arkansans. Its 170+ members conduct outstanding cancer research within Cancer Therapeutics, Cancer Biology, and Cancer Prevention & Population Sciences research programs. Cancer Institute members receive approximately $20 million in extramural cancer research funds annually, including multiple COBRE grants. The Cancer Institute has six institutional shared resource facilities and has recently hired 23 laboratory-based cancer researchers. Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute researchers also lead four cancer-focused NIH-funded Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence
(COBRE's).
