Once rockets and satellites make orbit, the Space Applications and Data Team is responsible for ensuring that the British public, and British businesses, get the most out of the services and data they provide. We deliver the heart of the National Space Strategy by:

  • Enabling UK businesses to utilise space data and assets to address some of the greatest challenges of our age, including climate change, an aging population, and a fragmented international supply chain. Our team performs this role predominantly through running the Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) programme in collaboration with the European Space Agency.

  • Supporting British space applications companies to access growth investment, scale, and offer their services internationally.

  • Representing the UKs strategic priorities on inter-governmental platforms including the European Space Agency, emerging international partnerships, and through the UKs independent Free Trade Agreements.


  • Successful delivery of these objectives contributes materially to the growth and expansion of the UKs space economy, create jobs and embeds space as a core UK strength.

    The Space Applications and Data team sits withing the UK Space Agencys Investment Directorate. Although we support the delivery of all three aspects of the Agencys value proposition (to Catalyse Investment, Deliver Missions and Capabilities and Champion Space), maximising total investment into the UK space sector is the key objective of the work of the directorate.

    Person specification

    The Space Applications and Data team is looking for a Senior Executive Officer to support the delivery of the Business Applications and Space Solutions funding programme.
  • Review questionnaires and proposals submitted by BASS applicants, recommending which applications should be supported by analysing projects and considering how they align with the Agencys objectives.

  • Support the Senior BASS Delivery Lead in managing the Agencys relationship with ESA, promoting a culture of information sharing and the timely processing of applications for funding.

  • Work with the wider Applications team and Investment Directorate colleagues to analyse and understand the cohort of BASS-funded organisations to identify opportunities for further Agency and government support.

  • Manage the pipeline of BASS applications and associated enquiries, including using SharePoint to track applications and provide status updates to Agency management and ESA.

  • Regularly review ways of working to ensure the BASS programme is effective and efficient, disseminating best practice across the team and wider Agency.

  • Engage with internal agency colleagues, representatives from industry, academia, research organisations, and HMG colleagues to promote and raise awareness of the programme

  • Independently lead engagement on designated thematic sectors as a subject matter expert; identifying events and meetings to promote BASS, designing new funding calls, and collaborating with partners to pursue space applications-related projects., If a person with disabilities is put at a substantial disadvantage compared to a non-disabled person, we have a duty to make reasonable changes to our processes.

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office 365 applications such as SharePoint, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. Proficiency with the functionality of SharePoint is desirable.

  • Experience of supporting or managing grant funding processes, or other equivalent funding activities.

  • A passion for space, and the positive impact it can make on people and businesses.

  • Experience in the space sector or using satellite applications

  • Project management experience, particularly using processes such as GANTT charts or Microsoft Project
