Full Job Description

For our European business we have sites in the UK, the Netherlands and in Spain. This role will oversee all the transactional financial activities for all our sites in Europe. The activities are managed within one team with employees working from our site in the UK as well as in the Netherlands. The Finance Manager will work closely together with other colleagues from the central finance team and with the Finance Business Partner., Lead the transactional Finance, AP and AR functions for the European business unit and Germains Central. Accountable for managing payments and receipts, including prompt payment to suppliers and receipt of income from customers. Key controls are balance sheet reconciliations, integrity of payments, credit card management, expenses, bank reconciliations, asset audits, finance master data and payroll controls. Other key duties are management of the AR & AP team, VAT and tax reporting, completeness and accuracy of financial information in the EU business units ERP and finance systems. The job holder must be able to demonstrate compliance with Germains and ABF Group financial controls. Currently the role also covers NL payroll, expected to transfer to AB Agri in future., Accounts payable / Accounts receivable- Accountable for prompt payment to suppliers and related controls. Accountable for prompt receipt of income from customers and related controls. Credit card admin. Intercompany balances. Expenses processing and controls.

Banking / Payments / Tax- Payment approvals and controls. Daily Bank reconciliations. VAT checking and submitting returns.

Fixed Asset admin /Stock- Fixed Asset administration. FCFQ submission for related controls. Stock rec support.

Period End- Statutory reporting and Year end packs. Sales reporting at period end, supporting EU FBP. Period End balance sheet reconciliations. Post journals as needed for Claims, Rebates and Sales accruals and others where needed.

People Management- Manage a team of 4 account assistants based in the UK and in the Netherlands. Setting SMART objectives and managing performance. Creating a learning environment that enables personal growth for people within the team.

Audits- Support internal and external audits in UK and NL, ensuring files requested are provided in a timely manner and reviewed for completion.

Financial controls / Payroll- Ensure financial control checks are carried out accurately on payment runs before authorising. Analyse, recommend and implement changes to the ERP and financial system to further support the requirements of the finance department.

Continuous Improvement- Identify and implement process improvements within the finance department to improve efficiency, demonstrate controls and provide cost savings.

Team Structure

This post reports into the Group Head of Finance and will be responsible for 4 direct reports.

  • Be a CIMA/ ACCA (or equivalent) qualified finance professional.

  • Educated to degree level standard with evidence of further studies carried out in a professional capacity.


  • The job holder will require a good working knowledge of AP & AR and be highly competent in using excel and other Microsoft packages. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a finance role.

    This role will support teams in the Netherlands, Spain and the UK , therefore some travel will be required.
