Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical part in embedding consistent safety practice with sole site responsibility.

How will you contribute?

  • Manage site Health & Safety in accordance with Wincanton's Safety Health Environmental Procedures.

  • Ensure the site meets or exceeds the Health & Safety targets expected by Wincanton / Client.

  • Support and manage site training records and site training matrix

  • Co-ordination of all site Health & Safety activities including committees, training and communications to ensure the site remains compliant

  • Assist/undertake risk assessments and create SSOWs as required

  • Using corporate IT systems e.g. Eco Online, BCP, Web risk etc. to produce reports & support the delivery of safety across the network

  • Attention to detail when producing all reporting requirements is required

  • Ensure all required reports are delivered on time and detailed

  • Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation and RIDDOR reports

  • Work in line with Company Process and Audit requirements

  • Act as necessary without supervision to complete tasks and organise people and activities effectively, knowing what to measure and how to measure it

  • Liaise daily with Distribution Centre Manager and site management team

  • Define problems and devise effective solutions using rigorous logical and analytical tools

  • Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement, discussion and intuition

  • Carry out daily site inspections to analyses what exists and what needs to be done and arrange for appropriate actions to be taken

  • Ensure compliance with Regulations by making frequent, unannounced physical inspections and by conducting audits of the written documentation

  • Hold Health & Safety meetings and oversee First Aiders on site again acting in accordance to site compliance and current legislation

  • Manage and drive safety plans across the site including advocating a H&S comes first culture

  • Assist the Network H&S Manager at other locations within the area in agreement with local management

  • To attended company safety conferences / courses as required throughout the year

  • To provide support and guidance to all departments on site with H&S related matters. Ensuring that day to day compliance is met

  • Has working knowledge of a safety environment within Transport preferable

  • Can operate successfully with all levels of colleagues and management

  • Able to resolve multiple and/or complex issues while under pressure

  • IOSH qualification required as minimum

  • NEBOSH qualification preferred or working towards

  • Minimum 2/3 years working in a supervisory position in a strong H&S Environment is required

  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with customers and colleagues by demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism Experience of Microsoft Office applications
