Full Job Description

As the Inverter Mechanical & Prototype Group Product Owner, you will be responsible for leading the team responsible for Mechanical design and Prototype Build within the Advanced Inverter Group. Specifically, this includes overall responsibility for Inverter concept, design, analysis and release as well as prototype assembly.

The successful candidate will be based within JLRs Advanced Power Electronics group which has a focus on a range of high voltage components including Traction Inverters, On-board Chargers and DCDC Converters.
You will work closely with a range of groups within engineering, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, including ISO 26262. This is a highly visible and impactful role, offering the opportunity to shape the future of JLR's Inverter product line up.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Line management and technical leadership of the Inverter Mechanical & Prototype Group and mentoring and development of group team members.

  • Responsible for the deployment and execution of JLR's mechanical engineering and CAE processes for Advanced Inverter Projects and for the deployment and execution of prototype build processes for Advanced Inverter Projects.

  • Collaborate and align with mechanical and system integration colleagues across the domain and wider business to ensure Inverters meet all integration, functional, non-functional and legislative requirements and collaborate with internal and external manufacturing engineering teams to ensure alignment of design with manufacturing strategy, technology and capability and with cost engineering to ensure designs meet cost targets.

  • Manage group planning and resourcing; Risk Reporting & Mitigation and support the team's escalation requests.

  • Development of the mechanical engineering and CAE strategy and methods for the team and of the prototype build strategy and methods for the item.

    In order to be considered for this position the successful candidate needs to have experience in drafting and reviewing 2D drawings with application of GD&T to BS8888; experience performing first-principles analysis (stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, sealing, bolt loading, cost and mass optimisation); demonstrable experience using failure mode avoidance tools and methods as well as failure analysis tools to determine root cause and experience successfully leading and developing a cross functional team.


  • Essential

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex electro-mechanical projects in a mass production environment; able to negotiate, collaborate and apply sound reasoning to drive progress and to proactively engage resources to deliver against milestones.

  • Expert knowledge of machining principles, fabrication / sheet metal, design of plastic injection molding, overmolding, stamped & cast parts.

  • Experience in fixture design in Tooling and Assembly, Bolt Calculation, Sealing design & Busbar design experience and Tolerance stack analysis.

  • Knowledge design of sub-assemblies including PCBA, highly proficient in CAD, CATIA preferred and knowledge of HV Power Electronics, in particular Traction Inverters.

  • Experience designing assemblies with high voltage creepage and clearance requirements / design rules.
