Full Job Description

We are looking for talented individuals to join our team and work at our manufacturing and technology centre. Creativity and the ability to innovate using your background knowledge in chemistry and materials science is key requirement for this position. Key responsibilities include formulation development and developing associated manufacturing and quality control processes. This opportunity is a fully 'hands on' role, where you will be expected to use your laboratory skills. Training will be provided to operate a wide range of analytical and manufacturing equipment. The candidate will require excellent awareness and adherence to occupational health and safety practices. In addition, the candidate will take an active role in customer visits, meetings, performing literature surveys, data acquisition and analysis to assist in producing written reports and presentations for our customers. Some international travel may be required.

Principal Responsibilities:

· Develop formulations for new products and associated manufacturing processes.

· Ability to extract technical information via scientific literature and patent search to support formulation and product developments.

· Product evaluation, formulation trials and sample preparation.

· Ability to use statistical methods to design and analyse the results of experimental programs.

· Ability to report on the progress of complex projects.

· Prepare customer reports and presentation. Attend customer meetings as required. Travel to customer sites as required.

· Work in accordance with good laboratory practice guidelines. Produce risk assessments and ensure safe working practices at all times.

· Ability to work across functional areas and to gather and maintain information.

· Team player who collaborates well with other technical colleagues.

· Ability to collaborate with external vendors to keep projects on track and on schedule.

· Provide guidance and training to interns on use of laboratory equipment.

· Able to multi-task to prioritise and co-ordinate given tasks.

· Work to tight deadlines and ensure work is completed within the agreed timescales.

Be aware of existing quality control procedures and develop quality control procedures as part of new product introduction.

Report to: Product Manager

Time commitment: 08:30-17:00, five days per week, 1 hour lunch break

Support: Training for this position will be provided.

Key Requirements

· Degree, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science or related discipline.

· Practical knowledge of how to prepare and process materials for testing purposes.

· Self-motivated with innovative with a drive to meet challenging deadlines.

· Good laboratory skills - safe, structured, logical approach with excellent attention to detail.

· Innovative and flexible, able to link different concepts across product types.

· Curiosity and interest in new product development and to explore the limits of advanced materials technology.

· Positive attitude, high level of motivation, initiative and a sense of urgency.

· Be independent and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
