  • To operate as an autonomous practitioner in both face to face and remote interventions

  • To have responsibility for managing own caseload and for maintaining accurate and relevant client records

  • To work in line with the policies, procedures and service standards of Talk Works and within the BABCP Code of Ethics, To provide a high-quality, clinically effective therapy for individuals referred to the service

  • This will include providing a service to those clients presenting with diverse and complex psychological and mental health needs

  • To undertake initial assessment of clients presenting with multiple and complex issues, including assessment of appropriateness of treatment and referral on to other clinicians and other services.

  • To liaise, collaborate and communicate with GPs or other services on occasion. This may also include the communication of sensitive information.

  • To produce sensitive written reports in collaboration with and with the consent of clients, to share with employers

  • To work within GDPR or equivalent data protection framework


  • Policy and Service Development Implementation
  • To assist in the evaluation of the service by contributing to data collection and analysis and to participate in any audit or research work as required.

  • To monitor the counselling service proposing changes to line manager in relation to service delivery and working practices as appropriate.

  • To undertake continuous professional development.

  • To participate in regular clinical and management supervision.

  • To adhere to local and professionally prescribed codes of ethical conduct and practice.

  • To maintain up-to-date, timely, clear client records within the practice management system in line with legal and policy requirements

  • To participate in monitoring, audit and service evaluation tasks


  • Freedom to Act:
  • Post holders have autonomy in relation to clinical practice and accessing clinical supervision

  • Main area of focus is upon therapeutic relationships

  • Post holder required to problem-solve and be professionally/clinically resourceful


  • Effort and Environment:

    Physical Effort
  • Work will involve sitting in a constrained position for long periods of time for client therapy sessions.

  • Travelling to clinics

  • Daily use of computer/Ipad


  • Mental Effort
  • Mentally, highly demanding. Mental Health assessment, including all aspects of human experience (including abuse, risk, safeguarding, suicide).

  • Requires delivery of evidence-based treatment tailored to each client


  • Emotional Effort
  • Frequently conduct bereavement counselling; treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (including rape; torture and emotional abuse).

    You will hold a Clinical Qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; typically the Post-Graduate Diploma in CBT or in High Intensity Psychological Therapies.

  • Eligible for accreditation with BABCP

  • Current professional registration to practice as a qualified CBT therapist

  • Experience of prioritising and managing own caseload

  • Experience of maintaining clear and up to date client records

  • Good communication and relationship skills

  • Experience of providing short-term therapy to working aged adults

  • Experience of working with clients who present with complex issues

  • Commitment to continuing professional development

  • Enhanced DBS clearance

  • Post graduate qualification in CBT or High Intensity Therapy


  • Desirable requirements
  • Experience of working with groups

  • Experience of delivering training


  • Skills:
    Communication and Relationship Skills
  • The post holder will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the clinical team and the referrals team and will require excellent communication skills


  • Planning and Organisational Skills
  • Responsible for own clinical caseload, in a safe, ethical and professional manner, within the policies and service standards of Talk Works and within the ethical code of the registering organisation (BABCP)

  • To deliver interventions in groups as well as with individuals

  • To tailor therapy to be delivered in a short-term framework, achieving realistic goals in the contracted therapeutic timeframe


  • Physical Skills
  • The ability to meet the travel requirements of the post (i.e. working from the clinic base)


  • IT Skills
  • Good IT skills including email and excel and electronic diary management within a practice management system

    Pay: £39,000.00-£43,500.00 per year
