Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor to work alongside our existing clinical lead to support the high quality and standard of Safe Space delivery and clinical practice.

Safe Space works with schools and other agencies to provide therapeutic intervention to children and some adults. Additionally, we deliver a very successful mentoring service.

The purpose of the role is to have clinical oversight and leadership for the therapeutic side of the service. As such you will ensure that practice aligns with BACP standards as well as adhering to HCC Childrens Services safeguarding and best practice.
About the role

You will have a responsibility for reviewing incoming referrals to the service to determine if their needs are best met by Safe Space, or alternatively redirecting or escalating them as required.

Additionally, you will lead on the Crisis response contract alongside the existing Clinical Lead to ensure a robust and reactive offer for children and their networks when there are major events.

The existing Clinical Lead will retain line management of the Senior Counsellors, however there is an expectation that you will be a point of contact and take on responsibilities as one of the senior leaders of the service, working closely with the Safe Space Manager and Central Team around policy, contract and practice development.

You will be working in a fast-paced stimulating environment that would draw on and build your organisational skills and your ability to prioritise workloads in a changing environment. Your previous experience as a therapist and manager, working in collaborative teams is essential in this role.

Being a job share there will be work to identify clear roles and responsibilities for the existing post holder and the new role, however there is an expectation that the post holder will eventually learn the entire Clinical Lead role so they can support in times of absence and annual leave, This position is open to secondments. If you work for HCC or any other Local Authority and would like to be considered as a Secondment contract, please ensure you complete the Secondment Form as part of your application. If you do not, your application will be considered as a Fixed Term Contract only.

  • You must be a qualified, registered and accredited (or working towards accreditation) therapist

  • Clear evidence of management experience

  • Strong IT skills including Word and Excel

  • Clear evidence of responding to and addressing safeguarding concerns


  • Desirable:
  • Experience of EHM and LCS - Liquid Logic Case Management Systems

  • Strong report writing skills and data analysis
