About the Role:
We're now recruiting for a B Grade Team Member to work within our maintenance team to help achieve set production targets and ensure our customers get the best possible service, through an excellently maintained, reliable fleet.
As part of the B Grade role, you do not need to be qualified in Engineering but, having the motivation and basic technical skills is helpful. You'll be responsible for carrying out maintenance and organising of diesel train units to recognised standards and procedures, whilst playing an active role in the Northern Team.
You'll need to work a range of shifts, from the early hours of the morning until late at night, plus weekends and Bank Holidays, it's vital that you're flexible and that you live within 60 minutes' drive of our TrainCare Centre.
If this sounds like your thing, we'd love to hear from you., This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

  • Maintaining and servicing our trains to ensure they are safe to go into service for our colleagues and passengers and checking that the train environment is up to our market leading standards

  • Ensuring you keep people safe; you will be trained in and follow all the relevant health and safety requirements.

  • Responsibility for the fuelling and tanking of our trains to ensure they can go out in a timely manner

  • Carrying out external lancing of units in preparation for maintenance tasks to be executed

  • Assisting skilled Engineers in the maintaining of all Diesel Trains across our fleet

  • You'll keep our trains in a safe condition to allow colleagues to carry out their duties

  • Training for all fleet and systems will be given but you must be willing to play an active role in your development.

    You do not need to have a qualification in Engineering, as we will teach you what you need to know, but having some basic technical skills covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing & vehicle building skills would be beneficial. Successful candidates will need to be willing to play an active role in your own appraisal, training and development. Most of all you'll need to be committed to providing excellent service through efficiency, high standards and most of all, safety.

  • For this role you will need to have excellent team working abilities and strong communication skills, as this is crucial, to ensure all work is completed and nothing is missed or overlooked.
    We're also looking for the following:
  • Experience in following instructions/rules and regulations, to ensure all maintenance is carried out in a safe manner

  • The ability to prioritise and be adaptable when things can change as well as managing your day to day workload

  • Showing initiative where necessary, whilst continuing to adhere to our working policies

  • The ability to stay calm and to think on your feet, in sometimes challenging situations

  • Someone who is dedicated and confident about talking to and building relationships with all sorts of people to ensure smooth running.
